The Irish Hospice Foundation supports the development of hospice care and promotes the hospice philosophy. Hospice care is the specialised care of people with life-limiting illness. The hospice philosophy is based on the principle of wholeness, expressed in many ways - for example, it gives equal emphasis to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of the patient.
The Irish Hospice Foundation receives no ongoing government funding and is hugely dependent on the generosity of supporters.
By donating your old gold jewellery, you will be helping the Irish Hospice Foundation to continue its valuable work.
What we do:
- We inform, educate and train, notably in the area of loss and bereavement.
- We undertake pioneering projects aimed at the long-term development of hospice/palliative care, sometimes in partnership with other bodies.
- Through advocacy and awareness-raising, we work to promote a better understanding of end-of-life care issues and to influence decision-makers to make services more widely available.
- We provide financial support for hospice services in certain circumstances.
- We promote research on topics related to hospice/palliative care by means of grant-aid, training and co-funding initiatives with other agencies.
- We support independent voluntary hospice groups around Ireland by coordinating national fundraising events and facilitating meetings.
- We actively fundraise on our own behalf in order to support the above activities.
What we do not do:
- We do not provide hospice services.
- We do not manage, coordinate or officially represent hospices or hospice services in Ireland.
- We do not offer bereavement counselling.
